Elsie Mae Howard, 79, died at 9:25 a.m. yesterday (June 14, 1969 at Lake View Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient 12 days. She had been in ill health eight months. A nurses' aide at St. Elizabeth Hospital for several years, Mrs. Howard lived in this area most of her life. She was born May 23, 1880 in Jamaica, IL, the daughter of Luke and Hattie Smith Swank. She married James Edward Howard Feb. 7, 1908 at Newport, IN. He preceded her in death Feb. 19, 1952 She is survived by two sons, Herman and Harold, both of Perrysville; three sisters, Mrs. Effie Bennett, Mrs. Bessie Langley, and Mrs. Nancy Holycross, all of Danville, Il and two brothers, Alva Swank and Benjamin Swank of Cayuga and three granddaughters. She also was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and a grandson. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. EDT at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with the Rev. Grover Williams officiating . Burial will be in Lower Mound Cemetery. Friends will be received this afternoon and evening. -- tch
